final Version Luggage Factory TagTraveling alone doesn’t have to be lonely or boring. In fact, it can be a great deal of fun and can provide you with opportunities to explore the world on your own, at your own pace, and maybe even with no real plans! While some destinations are more suited to families, there are plenty of options for those who are traveling independently. Our Travel Experts ® have some suggestions! Believe it or not, taking a cruise can be fun, even if you’re not with other people. Sure sometimes there is a “single supplement” charged, but a few lines have ships with “studio” cabins designed for single occupancy. Norwegian Cruise Lines’ Norwegian Breakaway, Norwegian Getaway and Norwegian Epic as well as the soon to launch Quantum of the Seas and Anthem of the Seas from Royal Caribbean offer this type of cabin. Designed and priced for single occupancy, these cabins are a great alternative to paying the premium charged on a standard cabin. There are plenty of activities as well so feel free to join in as much or as little as you want. Take in a show, hit the casino, soak up some rays or get a massage. In port, stick with a ship-sponsored excursion so you’ll have some people around you. Of course, seasoned cruisers may prefer to just go with the flow, but make sure you do NOT miss your ship! Another fun option for a solo traveler is a long distance train trip. Our main passenger railroad, Amtrak, offers overnight trains that cross our beautiful nation and provide plenty of opportunities to meet other folks. You’ll meet all sorts of interesting characters while you’re crossing this great nation and the diner car and sightseer lounge cars are great places to meet others and strike up conversations.   Check with your local church or community organization as well. Often, these groups will put together vacation packages and tours and you’ll instantly make a bunch of new friends amongst the other group members. Sometimes they will even be able to pair you up with a roommate provided you’re compatible with each other! Visit places that offer lots of activities and sightseeing opportunities as well.
