Holiday Travel Survival Tips
The best, but most chaotic time to travel is the holidays. Keep in mind that the vast majority of the world is also trying to travel during these times. Here are a few simple tips to make it to your destination and survive that holiday craze. Book early. As soon as you know you’ll be traveling around peak times, book your flights. The earlier you book, the cheaper they will be. Traveling early or late in the day will also help with avoiding some of the mid-day madness. Prepare for traffic. Plan alternate, more scenic routes if possible and leave plenty of time to get to the airport. Check your flights. No matter where your final destination is, always check the status of your flights BEFORE leaving home. Getting to the airport only to find out your flight has been cancelled is the worst start to a holiday vacation. Stock up on snacks and entertainment. Don’t let yourself go hungry during that 4 hour delay. Pack extra snacks and games for yourself and the kids in case of canceled flights, delays, traffic etc. Tip: Don’t forget your headphones. Leave the gifts unwrapped. A classic packing mistake, especially during the holidays, is traveling through the airport with all your gifts wrapped and ready to be delivered. TSA agents often will ask you to unwrap the gifts, so it’s better to wrap them once you’ve reached the destination. Breathe. Remember, it’s the holidays and you’re supposed to be relaxing! Make the best of unexpected situations so that you can fully enjoy your trip once holiday travel stress has passed.
