In 2010, Skyway Luggage Company celebrated its 100th anniversary. After a century of business, Skyway celebrated not only reaching this milestone, but also the dedication and hard work it took to get there. Founded in 1910 by A.J. Kotkins, Skyway began its legacy as the Seattle Suitcase Trunk and Bag Manufacturing Company. Inspired by the promise of the budding air travel industry in the 1930's, the company began producing hand luggage, calling the pieces "Sky Way… Styled for the Sky". The company expanded its sales nationwide after the end of World War II and shifted its focus from trunks and footlockers to suitcases. In 1955, the company officially adopted the name Skyway Luggage Company and enjoyed great success as an innovative force in the luggage industry, introducing such features as chrome hardware, vinyl covering, and, in 1972, wheeled luggage. Since then, Skyway has expanded its reach worldwide and has maintained its reputation for producing inventive and well-designed luggage. In February 2012, Skyway Luggage Company was acquired by Ricardo Beverly Hills, and now operates out of La Mirada, California. Skyway is proud of its long history and strives to continue on the quest to create fresh, progressive and functional products that are relevant to the evolving needs and lifestyle of the modern traveler.
